Sure, I’m interested in the gently used 12” PowerBook!!! I’m in the market for a new laptop. How much for it?

Well, I would take $225 for the notebook itself — it comes with OS X 10.3 (Panther). I will throw in OS X 10.4 (Tiger), Microsoft Office 2004 & iLife 2005 for $50 each or $125 for all three.

A word of warning: This notebook is in good condition for having traveled around the world. However, it is four years old and it is showing some signs of age. In particular the display has dimmed slightly over time. Also this is far from a state-of-the-art machine — it runs on Apple’s old architecture (PowerPC chip) and it is underpowered for current resource-intensive applications (video editing, for example). Also, I don’t know how long Apple and third-party software vendors will continue to support the old architecture.

So, that is a lot of disclaimers, but it really is a great little machine for everyday use (email, Web browsing, photos, iTunes and so on).

Oops. It looks like I should have waited a few more weeks for the new MacBook. The new models were introduced this week — for the same amount of money I could have got a slightly faster processor, a much larger hard drive and double the RAM. Oh well.

I would like to purchase the laptop from you. Would you accept a payment plan (i.e. half up front to hold the laptop and half to actually receive it), or would you rather receive the entire payment of $350 at once (which includes all three updates that you list)? Please e-mail me and let me know. Thank you.
