iTunes by the Numbers (Update)

2008 iTunes stats (podcasts and video excluded):

  • My iTunes library currently contains 8,008 tracks.
  • I have added 550 tracks to my library this year (mostly my Elvis binge).
  • I have listened to 2,766 distinct tracks this year.
  • I have over 100 tracks in my library from each the following artists: Elvis Presley (464), The Beatles (380), Bob Dylan (309), Elvis Costello (266), The Who (215), Bruce Springsteen (183), Prince (166), Neil Young (155), Lyle Lovett (130), The Rolling Stones (129), Van Morrison (124) and The Band (118).  (Note – There is  some overlap between the Dylan and Band tracks.)
  • The ten albums I have listened to most often this year are: Raising Sand (Robert Plant & Alison Krauss), Bringing It All Back Home (Bob Dylan), Abbey Road (The Beatles), The Jungle Book (Original Soundtrack), The Long Black Veil (The Chieftains), Let It Be (The Beatles), The Chess Box (Chuck Berry), A Musical History (The Band), Centerfield (John Fogerty), Anthology (Sly and the Family Stone)
  • I obviously skew heavily to the old stuff, but I must say that I absolutely love the Plant & Krauss album – Raising Sand has been in my heavy rotation ever since it was released last year.
  • My big re-discovery this year has been Sly and the Family Stone.  Anthology just might be the best single volume hits collection in my library (with apologies to Buddy Holly).
