I really like getting gift cards. Unlike cash, gift cards encourage me to buy something that I might not otherwise buy for myself. For example, my employer gives each employee a gift card each year that can be redeemed at the store of your choice — I almost always choose Amazon and I almost always use the gift card for buying some music.
Here is what I gave myself this year:
- Veedon Fleece and Avalon Sunset by Van Morrison. I had an epiphany while listening to Van at work last week: I own about a dozen Van Morrison albums and I love them all, so I should probably get a couple more.
- Beatles For Sale by The Beatles. This completes my collection of Beatles studio albums. Not sure why I waited to get this one last.
- Talking Book by Stevie Wonder. I’ve been wanting to get into Stevie’s prime works for some time — this seemed like a good place to start.
- Little Honey by Lucinda Williams. As a frequent consumer of Elvis Costello’s music, both Amazon and iTunes suggested that I give this one a try.
Santa usually brings me a few CDs as well, so I should have plenty of new music to start the New Year.
