- The Cardinals will finish 4th in the NL Central this year, trailing the Cubs and two other teams that are not particularly good.
- Tony LaRussa will not be the manager of the Cardinals when spring training opens in 2010. I will be sad to see him go, but I am looking forward to the team moving in a new direction.
- Albert Pujols will not finish his career in St. Louis. I wish him good luck with the Yankees, Mets (likely), Red Sox, Dodgers or Angels — no other team will be able to afford him.
- The Cardinals franchise will be sold within the next 3 years. Good money would be on one of the Wal-Mart heirs to buy the team.
- Some good news: The Cubs will make a playoff push for another year or two then recede into mediocrity (or worse) for the next quarter century. I have been impressed by their commitment to putting a contender on the field almost every year this decade, but history has shown that will not last long in Chicago.
