Millie turned three this month. She is enjoying her time home alone with Mommy while Jack is away at school.

I recently deleted my Facebook account. I tried it for a little over a year — it just didn’t suit. You can still find me on Twitter.

We are glad to see the summer heat wind down. If you don’t already know, we live in a 104 year old home without AC. This was by far this most challenging summer. If I can find the time I will write up a full post on how and why we live without AC.

The Cardinals have been a never-ending source of frustration and disappointment for me this year. I am still hoping they can squeak into the playoffs. Their starting pitching is good enough to shut down almost any team in a short series.

The Cardinals will finish 4th in the NL Central this year, trailing the Cubs and two other teams that are not particularly good.

Tony LaRussa will not be the manager of the Cardinals when spring training opens in 2010. I will be sad to see him go, but I am looking forward to the team moving in a new direction.

Albert Pujols will not finish his career in St. Louis. I wish him good luck with the Yankees, Mets (likely), Red Sox, Dodgers or Angels — no other team will be able to afford him.

The Cardinals franchise will be sold within the next 3 years. Good money would be on one of the Wal-Mart heirs to buy the team.

Some good news: The Cubs will make a playoff push for another year or two then recede into mediocrity (or worse) for the next quarter century. I have been impressed by their commitment to putting a contender on the field almost every year this decade, but history has shown that will not last long in Chicago.

For the first time in my life, the University of Missouri football team is in contention for the national championship. While I do not follow college football at all and I think that the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) ranking system is seriously flawed, that will not stop me from displaying some provincial pride. Go Mizzou!

Update (11/25/07): Previously undefeated Kansas fell to Mizzou last night by a score of 36-28. That could put the Tigers first in the BCS rankings. They will be assured of an appearance in the BCS title game if they can avenge their only defeat of the season by beating Oklahoma in the Big 12 championship game next week.

The family is doing fine. At just six weeks Millie is already up to 13 pounds. Jack loves his new little sister (lots of kisses). Mom heads back to work in less than two weeks.

The Cardinals fired general manager Walt Jocketty yesterday after 13 successful years. In my mind, as Cardinal GM, Jocketty would rank behind only Bing Devine and the legendary Branch Rickey. I wish him well, though he won’t need it — given his track record I expect him to have his pick of front office jobs at any price he names.

I have bought a lot of new music recently. I haven’t quite warmed up to the new Springsteen album (Magic) yet — maybe it will grow on me. Lyle Lovett‘s new album (It’s Not Big, It’s Large) is a great return to his Large Band era — lots of horns, lots of blues and lots of traditional country. But the big surprise is the new John Fogerty album (Revival). It is absolutely spectacular. As the title would suggest, he has finally reconciled with his legendary past. The album is really a tribute to CCR — beautiful melodies, great pop hooks, that classic jangling guitar and even a good measure of the old CCR anger. ‘I Can’t Take It No More’ brings a new cast of characters to an old Creedence classic: ‘I bet you never saw the old school yard / I bet you never saw the National Guard / Your daddy wrote a check, and there you are . . . another Fortunate Son’.
